Stuart Isaacs QC of commercial set 3-4 South Square has become the first London barrister to register as a foreign lawyer in Singapore.
Isaacs said he applied for foreign lawyer status after Singapore appeal judge Justice VK Rajah, who oversees the development of the legal profession in Singapore, highlighted that the application process is not solely for solicitors.
Isaacs has now set up his own office in the country with an official launch scheduled for 21 September. The office is in addition to his London practice and is not related to 3-4 South Square.
“In Singapore I’m the one registered to practice and I’m the one paying the expenses,” he said, “but undoubtedly it will benefit chambers as litigation, as opposed to arbitration, work still has to go through London.”
