Atlanta-based Troutman Sanders has scooped Salans corporate partner Robert Bata as its new managing partner in London.
Bata was managing partner of Altheimer & Gray’s London, Central and Eastern European operations from 1995 until the US firm dissolved in 2003. Troutman Sanders’ previous managing partner John Varholy has been appointed as the head of the new global energy trading and marketing practice group.
Troutman Sanders has an extensive network of offices in the US, two offices in China but currently only one office in Europe with London considered a “gateway to Continental Europe”.
It is expected that Bata’s strong connections and credentials in Central and Eastern Europe will herald a push on that region for Troutman.
Bata joined Salans in 2003, where he has focussed on M&A and private equity in the energy and telecommunications industries.
A Salans spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
