One more joins Simmons’ partner exodus

Simmons & Simmons is set to lose its eleventh partner in the space of two months with corporate star Ed Lukins joining the London office of Morrison & Foerster (Mofo).

Mofo is undertaking a period of cautious growth in an attempt to build the London office in the image of its US and Asian practices.
Mofo’s London managing partner Kristian Wiggert said: “The theme is that we’re looking to substantially increase the size of our transactional teams in the areas the firm regards as key – technology and private equity.”

While Simmons has a de-equitisation plan to boost profits, a spokesperson admitted that only some of the recent departures were related to that. Lukins is unlikely to be one of them. He has good contacts within the private equity market and has worked on a string of large deals, including the initial public offering of Star Energy and the leveraged buyout of New Look Group.

Simmons’ spokesperson emphasised that the firm was on track to reach its profitability targets despite the unforeseen departures.
