Blake Lapthorn Linnell suffers triple partner departure

Blake Lapthorn Linnell has been dealt a blow with the departure of three partners in as many months.

Head of the education team Derek Elsey retired from the partnership last month. The Oxford-based partner was part of the rated education team at Linnells, which merged with Blake Lapthorn last year. The department counts many of the Oxford colleges among its clients.

Elsey’s destination is unknown, but it is understood that he is leaving the firm to pursue his career elsewhere, focusing on intellectual property and higher education.

The firm’s licensing practice in London has also suffered the departure of partner Lisa Inzani to Hatton Garden firm Bevan Kidwell. Blake Lapthorn founded the licensing department in London in 1999 with Inzani’s appointment.

The exits follow the departure of another London partner, commercial litigation specialist Michael Tackley, who left on 12 December to focus on international disputes at eight-partner firm Grundberg Mocatta Rakison. Tackley was part of the six-partner firm Abbot King & Trowan, which was absorbed into Blake Lapthorn in 1999.

Managing partner Walter Cha said: “Michael, Derek and Lisa have decided to move on to further their personal and professional development. We wish all three of them well.”
