McDermott London promotions drop

McDermott Will & Emery has made its partner promotions for 2007, making up 35 associates across the firm as well as making three new lateral hires.

McDermott’s London office saw two new partners, down on last year’s promotion of four to the partnership. London-based litigation partner Kate Learoyd and IP partner Hiroshi Sheraton were promoted.

Unsurprisingly, the firm’s headquarters in Chicago saw the most promotions, with eight new partners. The New York and Washington DC offices also did well, with six apiece. All of New York’s new partners are corporate specialists, while in DC the bulk were in IP.

Firmwide, these were also the practice areas to benefit most. The IP team garnered a total of 11 new partners, while corporate scored eight.

In addition to the 35 promotions from McDermott’s associate ranks, the firm also raided DC firm Miller & Chevalier and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman for three new partner hires.

In McDermott’s DC office, Jean Pawlow and Elizabeth Erickson will join as tax partners from Miller & Chevalier, while Dan Davis joins McDermott’s 60-lawyer Silicon Valley office as a partner in the alcohol beverages and products group from Pillsbury.

Pillsbury has moved quickly to plug the gap left by Davis, hiring a former director of California’s Alcoholic Beverage Control board, Jerry Jolly, as a consultant in its San Francisco office’s wine, beer and spirits law team.
