Jones Day has announced its partner promotions for 2007, making up 45 new partners from its associate ranks, the same number as last year.
The London office garnered four new partners, in tax, competition, M&A and private equity. Despite no increase in the number of promotions firmwide, London doubled its number of promotions on last year.
It also doubled its competition partnership headcount in London by promoting Jarleth Burke, along with Vincent Brophy in Brussels and Johannes Zöttl in Frankfurt.
Jones Day head of European competition Bernard Amory said: “These appointments confirm our strategy of building a premium practice in Brussels, while adding local capacity to serve clients in key national markets.”
Firmwide, the office to benefit most was the New York office, with seven promotions. Also netting a significant number were the Los Angeles and Cleveland offices, with five each.
The practice area with the most new promotions was IP, echoing the trend set by McDermott Will & Emery, which announced that it had promoted 11 out of 35 into IP (as first reported by www.thelawyer.com, 2 January).
Jones Day operates a merit-based system of compensation but its average profits per equity partner stand at £462,000.
