HGF fills patents niche in Scotland

English patent and trademark firm Harrison Goddard Foote (HGF) has opened its first office in Scotland, poaching Marks & Clerk partner Gary Wilson for a Glasgow launch.

Wilson, who specialises in pharmaceutical and engineering patents, will lead the new office, which will focus on patent applications for renewable energy and oil and gas clients.

Currently the office is staffed by Wilson and one other lawyer, but the firm has plans to expand to around 10 lawyers within three years.

HGF’s litigation arm HGF Law is also looking into the possibility of joining the non-contentious branch in Glasgow.

Wilson said: “We’re looking into that. There are signs of potential up here. Solicitors here don’t have quite the depth of experience as those down South.”

HGF’s other offices are in Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield and York.
