Herbies and Lovells join Slaughters on Treasury’s go-to team

Herbert Smith, Lovells and Slaughter and May have all secured places on the panel to advise the Government on the implementation of legislation that will be designed to protect the UK from bank failures.

Slaughters has advised the Government on a number of issues throughout the recession. Partner Charles Randell led the team advising the Treasury when Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley collapsed in 2008 and advised on a number of bank recapitalisations including HBOS and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) (13 July 2009).

Randell works alongside partners George Seligman and David Bicknell managing the Treasury relationship. It is not yet clear which partners at Lovells and Herbert Smith are managing the relationship.

Lovells ha close involvement with the financial crisis after an Ashurst conflict led it to scoop the FSA’s Lehman Brothers mandate (22 September 2008).

Herbert Smith advised on the collapse of Bradford & Bingley (6 October 2008). Corporate head Michael Walter led the advice alongside partners Will Pearce and Adam Levitt.
