Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has retained 34 of its 37 qualifying trainees this spring, or 92 per cent.

The firm made 34 offers to the 35 trainees who applied for newly-qualified roles, with all accepting.

Training principal James Baily said: “This has been a fantastic qualification round for us, with a very strong retention rate reflecting both the quality of our trainees and the firm’s commitment to developing home-grown talent. As with our last round, a number of our London trainees have qualified into offices overseas which is also good to see because it shows the extent of international opportunities at the firm.”

The result marks something of a return to form for HSF, which has recorded a couple of sub-80 per cent performances in the last two retention rounds.
