Halliwells’ panel place down the Tupe

Berrymans Lace Mawer has landed a team of seven Halliwells associates after winning a place on Norwich Union’s disease claims legal panel.

It comes as the insurance giant re-evaluates its wider legal panel in anticipation of sweeping claims-handling reforms.

Norwich Union replaced Halliwells with Berrymans at the end of 2007. But under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (Tupe) law, when the contract is moved to another firm, the new firm must then recruit the team.

In a statement Halliwells appeared unfussed, saying: “We wish them well. Panel reviews are now commonplace throughout all areas of law – whether it is corporate, commercial or insurance work. We have had a number successes in other areas and we are also in the process of finalising an exciting deal in a specific insurance business line.”
