Italian spirits company Gruppo Campari has announced Fabio Di Fede will replace the retiring Stefano Saccardi as general counsel in 2018.

Saccardi, who joined Campari 32 years ago before becoming GC in 1999, will remain on the company’s board until his mandate ends in 2019.

Di Fede will be succeeding him in the role, rejoining Campari after leaving in 2014 to join Société des Produits Marnier Lapostolle. He will take up his position effective from 1 January.

Data from The Lawyer Market Intelligence (LMI) shows Davide-Campari Milano, Gruppo Campari’s parent company, has instructed Allen & Overy and Morrison & Foerster in the past.

Milan-based A&O corporate partner Paolo Ghiglione led for the firm as Gruppo Campari reached an agreement to sell its Lemonsoda business to Danish drinks company Royal Unibrew for €80m (£71m) in October.

In 2012, Morrison & Foerster led for Campari as it acquired an 81.4 per cent stake in Jamaican spirits company Lascelles deMercado from Trinidad-based CL Financial Limited.

A&O led for CL Financial, although both partners who worked on the deal have now left for other firms. Capital markets partner Cathleen McLaughlin left for Paul Hastings in 2015 and M&A partner Nicole Perez joined Greenberg Traurig one year earlier.
