Gowling WLG is pleased to announce that Peter (Dongcheng) Zhang has been appointed the Toronto office leader of the firm’s China Initiative. In his new role, Zhang will help Chinese clients navigate the Canadian legal system and assist Canadian companies looking to make inroads into the Chinese market. He assumes the leadership position from partner Peter Choe.
Zhang joined Gowling WLG as counsel in 2014 after serving for a number of years as a partner at King & Wood Mallesons. He previously worked as an investment banker at China International Capital Corporation.
Licensed to practice law in China and Ontario and fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, Zhang specializes in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and foreign direct investment.
“With his sophisticated knowledge of the legal and commercial landscapes in both China and Canada, Peter Zhang is strongly positioned to help our clients bridge vast cultural and regulatory divides as they seek out new opportunities beyond borders,” said Thomas J. Timmins, national leader of the firm’s China Initiative. “We look forward to him building upon the impressive foundation set by Peter Choe to further the mission of our practice in Toronto.”
