Spanish independent firm Gomez-Acebo & Pombo has brought in the former chief financial officer of energy giant Endesa as a part-time consultant.
José Luis Palomo will join the firm’s advisory board, working three days a week. He quit Endesa in the summer after a 16-year stint at the company. The firm will use his experience to help advise on M&A and corporate finance transactions.
A spokesperson for the firm said that Palomo trained as a lawyer and had harboured plans to join a law firm after leaving Endesa.
In a statement, Palomo said the move was “an attractive challenge now that Gómez-Acebo & Pombo and the Spanish legal sector are going through a very important moment, just as the financial and business sectors are.”
Gomez-Acebo has recently overhauled its strategy and focused on developing its profile internationally. Last month the firm launched its first London office and is developing plans to open in Portugal after splitting with ally Vieira de Almeida.
The firm is one of the largest in Spain with 41 partners and 243 lawyers spread across nine offices in Spain, Brussels and London.
