Gibson Dunn’s investment in PE in the City (with hires such as Till Lefranc, Wim De Vlieger and Isabel Berger from Sidley Austin back in 2021) is paying off with a series of significant deals for financial sponsors such as KKR and Cinven and a flurry of deals at the start of 2024. Notable arrivals over the year included projects duo Ben Shorten and Trinh Chubbock, who joined from legacy Shearman & Sterling. The hires continued in 2024 with the arrival of former Linklaters leveraged finance co-head David Irvine as co-chair of the global finance practice and Freshfields partner Lisa Stevens, who joined the business restructuring and reorganisation practice group.
A hallmark of Gibson Dunn is its contentious practice, where highlight matters included securing a victory for Agility in a $1.65bn ICC arbitration.
Unlike some firms, Gibson Dunn is also seeing significant activity in its RE practice. Standout matters in 2023 included advising Canary Wharf on its £535m loan from Starwood and Cain to finance its build-to-rent developments in Wood Wharf. Other notable matters included advising RedBird IMI on its $1.45bn acquisition of All3Media and Japanese food company Zensho on its $621m acquisition of Snowfox.
