Francesco Gianni

Founding Partner

Francesco Gianni is the head of the corporate/M&A department and one of the founding partners of Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners.

Francesco is considered one of the top experts in M&A in Italy, as well as the rest of Europe. His focus is on corporate finance transactions, particularly general public M&A and public to private M&A. He also has extensive experience in the arbitration field.

He won the “Outstanding Contribution Award” at the Chambers Europe Awards.

Due to his position at the pinnacle of the M&A field he is frequently asked to represent some of the largest companies and investment banks in Europe. He was involved in almost all of the major privatisation processes of the Italian state-owned companies.

After graduating in Law “maxima cum laude” from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, he obtained an LL.M from the University of London, King’s College and an LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School. Early in his career, Francesco gained experience working in the US for top law firms.

He is a practicing member of the Italian Bar and is a member of the New York Bar. He delivers lectures at conferences all over the world and has been a contributor to many of the most prominent legal publications.

He speaks Italian, English and French.

GianBattista Origoni

Founding partner

GianBattista Origoni advises Italian and international clients on acquisitions, mergers, asset purchases and contributions, joint-ventures, stockholders’ agreements and reorganisation and insolvency proceedings. He also acts in domestic and international arbitrations.

After graduating in Law maxima cum laude from the University “Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” of Milan, he specialised at the Academy of International Law in The Hague, Netherlands, in American Law at the Salzburg Seminar and at  the Columbia University of New York.

Prior to founding the firm Gianni, Origoni, Grippo & Partners which carries his name, GianBattista gained experience at a number of law firms in Italy and abroad including Dechert, Price & Rhoads in Philadelphia and Washington DC.

He is a member of  numerous legal associations: New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, International Bar Association, Officer of the Italian Branch of the International Law Association, Interpacific Bar Association, Union Internationale des Avocats, Association Européenne des Avocats, Associazione per gli Scambi Culturali tra Giuristi Italiani e Tedeschi, Associazione Internazionale Giuristi di Lingua Italiana, Centre Européen d’Arbitrage, American Arbitration Association, London Court of International Arbitration, Associazione Italiana per l’Arbitrato, Association of Attendees and Alumni of the Academy of International Law The Hague, and the International Association Defense Counsel.

Eugenio Grippo


Eugenio Grippo specialises in financial transactions and in corporate matters with special emphasis on their financial aspects. His main areas of practice include: joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions together with project financing.

Eugenio has  long-standing experience in the energy industry, having advised on a number of electricity, oil and gas projects, starting from oil and gas upstream development in the ’70s, main gas pipelines in the ’80s, electricity privatisation in the ’90s and currently renewables.

A partner in Italy’s first partnership of lawyers in Italy from 1973 to 1985, he founded Studio Grippo & Associati in Milan and Rome, and formed a joint venture firm in 1993 with a prominent British law firm followed by full merger in 1997.  He joined the firm in 2001. 

He holds a Law degree from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome.

He is a member of the Italian Bar, and is qualified to act before the Corte di Cassazione (Italian Supreme Court).

He is the co-author of the text book “Manuale Breve del Diritto dell’Energia”, CEDAM, 2008.

He speaks Italian and English.

Antonio Auricchio


Antonio Auricchio specialises in commercial, corporate and bankruptcy matters, as well as in litigation and arbitration proceedings. He also advises banks, financial institutions and companies on all aspects of contentious insolvency and restructuring proceedings.

He joined the firm in 1990 and in 2000 was made partner.

Antonio was the office partner, responsible for the Rome office from 2008 to 2012 and is currently Co-Managing Partner of the firm.

After graduating in Law maxima cum laude from the University “Federico II” of Naples, Antonio studied at the Academy of American and International Law, University of Dallas, Texas, US.

He is a member of the Italian Bar and he is qualified to appear in front of the Italian Supreme Court since 2008. He is also a member of the Italian Association for Arbitration, TMA Italy (Italian Association for Corporate Restructuring) and Alumni of the Academy of American and International Law.

He writes for prominent law publications; his article “Expedited Debt Restructuring – An International Comparative Analisys”, was recently published by Kluver Law International. He is the author of the chapter “Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law and Policy” of the book “The Law of International Insolvencies and Debt Restructuring”.

He speaks Italian and English.

Rosario Zaccà


Rosario Zaccà specialises in corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and private equity, and has significant expertise in joint ventures and multi-jurisdictional transactions. Due to his strong experience in a broad range of corporate and M&A issues, he is frequently asked to represent some of the largest Italian and multinational companies and to handle complex transactions that require a sophisticated approach.

In 2011 he was awarded the ILO Client Choice Award for M&A in Italy.

As head of the firm’s India desk, he has extensive experience in assisting Indian companies in their activities in Italy, and Italian companies investing in India.

Responsible partner for the Milan office from 2010 to 2014, he is currently co-managing partner of the firm.

Rosario has been with the firm since 1994. He spent four years in the firm’s New York office and a semester with a City firm in London, before returning to Milan where he was made partner in 2001. 

After graduating in Law from the University of Catania, he studied common law and the English legal system at City of London Polytechnic and then international law at the Academy of International Law in The Hague.

He is a member of the Italian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, and has rights of audience before the Italian Supreme Court.

He speaks Italian and English.

Raimondo Premonte


Raimondo Premonte specialises in M&A and corporate law, advising domestic and multinational corporations, investment banks, private equity funds in M&A transactions, public tender offers and other stock exchange transactions in a variety of industries, such as telecommunications, renewable energy, information technology, fashion, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer products, and real estate.  He advises in the context of tender offers and reorganisations or mergers of corporations listed on the Milan and overseas stock exchanges, and in recent years has been involved in some of the major high profile transactions concerning Italian and non-Italian listed companies.

After graduating in Law from the University of Rome in 1992, he attended the Visiting Scholar & Research Fellow Programme at Columbia University Law School in 1993/1994.

Raimondo joined the firm in 1995 and from 1998 to 2000 he served as general counsel to a corporation listed on the Milan stock exchange.

From 2000 to 2003 Raimondo was a senior associate at the firm’s New York offices. During the same period he was also a sessional lecturer in corporate law at the Faculty of Law, New York University.

Raimondo became a partner in the firm in 2005.

He is a member of Italian Bar and is admitted to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales. He’s also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Foreign Law Association and the International Bar Association.

He speaks Italian and English.

Marco Zaccagnini


Marco Zaccagnini specialises in capital markets and financial markets’ regulations, with a focus on debt issues and restructuring, structured finance and derivative transactions (with a particular emphasis on credit derivatives and regulatory capital-driven structures). He assists premier investment banks, insurance companies, local authorities as well as other issuers and institutional investors.

After graduating “maxima cum laude” in Law from the University of Milan, Marco joined the firm in 1996 immediately after completing his LL.M. at University of London, Queen Mary and Westfield College.   

In addition to his legal practice, Marco writes and speaks frequently about legal issues in the financial markets. He is regularly invited as a speaker at conferences organised by International organisations and bodies such as the ICMA (International Capital Markets Association).

He is a member of the Italian Bar and he is also a Registered European Lawyer in the UK.

He speaks Italian and English.
