Freshfields has set up a memorial fund in memory of young solicitor Peter Kavanagh, who was killed in the Southall train crash two weeks ago.

Kavanagh, 29, was returning from visiting a client in Wales when the high-speed train he was travelling in collided with a freight train as it approached Paddington station. He was one of seven passengers killed.

Freshfields has now established the Peter Kavanagh Memorial Fund with all money raised going to St Luke's Hospice in Basildon. Kavanagh came from the area and had raised funds for the hospice.

“Peter Kavanagh was a gifted and outstanding lawyer,” said Freshfields managing partner Ian Terry.

Solicitors who want to contribute can send donations to the Peter Kavanagh Memorial Fund c/o Freshfields, 55 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1HS.
