Freshfields has published its trainee retention result for spring 2022.

The firm offered newly qualified (NQ) positions to all of its 37 final-seat trainees, with 34 accepting, a 92 per cent retention rate. The firm did not disclose, however, how many were on fixed-term contracts. Training partner Craig Montgomery said: “We are very pleased that many of our March qualifying intake will be continuing to progress their careers at the firm. We are proud of what they have achieved so far, and look forward watching their careers continue to grow.”

Elsewhere, Slaughter and May has also revealed retention of 85 per cent, with 33 of 39 trainees staying on as NQs, all in permanent roles.
