Freshfields loses first German competition partner

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has lost a German competition partner to the Brussels office of US firm Howrey.

From June, Marc Reysen, will join Howrey’s Belgian operation. According to German magazine JUVE, the lawyer is the first partner from Freshfields’ large German competition practice to move to another firm.

Reysen specialises in M&A competition law. Recent deals include advising Italy’s Unicredito on its merger with HypoVereinsbank.

The Freshfields partner is the second hire into Howrey’s competition practice. In May the former deputy general director of competition at the EU Commission Götz Drauz joined the firm.

Reysen’s departure still leaves Freshfields with 15 German competition partners and a further five in Brussels.
