A further corporate partner from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer‘s German operation has left the magic circle firm, surfacing at Baker & McKenzie.
Frankfurt-based corporate partner Nikolaus Reinhuber will join Bakers in the new year as a partner from Freshfields, where he has been for 16 years.
He is the third corporate partner to leave Freshfields’ German arm in as many months, following in the wake of Ralph Wollburg and Achim Kirchfeld from the firm’s Düsseldorf office. They both went to magic circle rival Linklaters (The Lawyer, 27 September), launching its Düsseldorf capability .
Part of Freshfields’ highly-rated private equity team, Reinhuber’s rolodex boasts bluechip clients such as Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) and Permira.
Bakers’ chairman John Conroy said: “Nikolaus Reinhuber will
strengthen our transactional expertise in Germany, a priority market for the firm and an important financial hub linking Europe and emerging economies worldwide.”
The hire will be a boon to Bakers’ German practice, which last year suffered from raids by Latham & Watkins and other US firms.
