Arthur Andersen’s former head of North America has resurfaced at Clifford Chance as the firm’s new US chief operating officer.

Terry Hatchett, who was a partner at Andersen’s for 34 years until its catastrophic end, will work closely with John Carroll, CC’s managing partner of the Americas region as well as the practice area leaders and regional management.

During his time at Arthur Andersen, Hatchett was considered one of the firm’s biggest rainmakers. He stepped down as US managing partner in March last year to be replaced by Larry Gorrell when Paul Volcker, chairman of the parent organisation of the International Accounting Standards Board and former chairman of the Federal Reserve, was brought in to restructure Andersen.

However, shortly after the accountancy firm collapsed on the back of the Enron scandal.
