First partner quits DLA Piper as firm gets too big

Herbert Frerichs Jr has become the first partner to leave DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary citing the need for a regional platform as opposed to the new international platform at the merged firm.

Frericks is joining Saul Ewing, which operates seven offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic region covering Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington DC.

Corporate and securities lawyer Frerichs was the managing partner of Piper Rudnick’s Baltimore office and is the former general counsel of Perdue Farms. He remains Perdue’s key lawyer as outside general counsel, devoting two days a week to the 20,000-employee poultry farmer.

DLA Piper wished him well.
