A project advised on by Eversheds has been awarded Healthcare Deal of the Year 2014. The deal involved advising the International Finance Corporation on a $37m (£23.5m) hospital PPP for the Cross River State government, Nigeria.
The project encompasses the design, build, finance and long-term maintenance of the 105-bed facility in Calabar. Upon completion in March 2015, the hospital will offer a full spectrum of secondary healthcare solutions, including specialist services such as diagnostics, surgery, radiology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, gynaecology, and neurology.
In what is to become the first ever full-scale hospital PPP project in Nigeria, an international projects team from Eversheds led by Richard Birks and Sophie Robinson advised the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on a public-private partnership agreement between the Cross River State government and an international consortium comprising Utopian Healthcare Consulting, SIMED (the Netherlands), Cure Healthcare Management Services (Hong Kong), CCP (Nigeria), Healthfore (India), and ITB (Nigeria), for the development and operations of a new 105-bed referral hospital in Calabar.
The Eversheds team worked alongside Nigeria-based law firm Aluko & Oyebode. PharmAccess-AMPC (PAI) were enlisted as technical consultants.
