It’s a busy time for Erskine Chambers, which is continuing its growth with the recruitment of three barristers from New Square Chambers – including the equally busy Stephen Smith QC.
Smith’s most notable recent case is the four-year battle between Kazakhstan’s BTA Bank and former chairman Mukhtar Ablyazov. He was instructed by Hogan Lovells, which last night scooped Litigation Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards for its work on the case.
Other big contentious winners last night included Monckton Chambers’ Tim Ward QC, crowned Barrister of the Year for his work representing the Icelandic government in its European court case over collapsed bank Icesave, while 3 Verulam Buildings picked up Chambers of the Year.
