Enterprise Chambers hires Herbert Smith administrator

Leading chancery set Enterprise Chambers has ended its year-long search for a chambers director with the appointment of Elspeth Mills Rendall.

The set began looking for a director last year after talking to management consultants BDO Stoy Hayward. The job was offered to one candidate from the commercial world in February but she turned it down in what was thought to be a dispute over salary, estimated at just over £60,000.

Mills Rendall, headhunted from Herbert Smith, will be responsible for all aspects of chamber's strategic management and administration, including clerking. The set has 21 tenants based in London, four in Leeds and three in Newcastle.

She was previously in charge of training at Dibb Lupton Alsop for five years, before leaving to head up professional development at Herbert Smith in 1997.

She said that Barry Clayton, the senior clerk, had been “totally involved” in her appointment and added: “My broad experience should stand me in good stead for the challenge of the Bar.”

The set has also taken on property specialist Alastair Henry who was previously a senior assistant with Nabarro Nathanson.
