Drink-drive barrister faces arrest on return to the UK

A barrister faces arrest on her return from holiday this week after failing to appear on two drink-drive charges at Bow Street Magistrates Court last Wednesday.

Karen Riggott, of Clerkenwell, wrote to the court saying that she could not attend because she was abroad.

Prosecutor Raj Barot told magistrate Ronald Bartle this was not an acceptable explanation and a warrant with bail was issued for her arrest.

Riggott is charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis last November at West End Central police station and driving or attempting to drive while unfit.

Barot says Riggott could be arrested upon her return at Waterloo.

Riggott left Warwick House, Gray's Inn, in February 1997.
