Drax seeks to restart head of legal role

Having decided two years ago not to fill the head of legal role left vacant by Kavita Singh, Drax company secretary Philip Hudson has had a change of heart .

Since Singh left to join MRC Global in 2012 the top job has been split in two, with Claire Sedgwick heading up a team of five handling commodity trading and corporate finance, while Siobhan Hagerty-Crosse heads a group of four handling commercial contracts.

The installation of a new head of legal may spell change not only for Sedgwick and Hagerty-Crosse but for the, at present informal, list of advisors the energy group turns to for advice.

The incoming legal chief could take a leaf out of Essar Energy general counsel Sheena Singla’s book and take the opportunity for a bit of a shake-up, or follow the lead of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and cut the number of its advisers. With panel reviews all the rage at the moment, there’s lots of scope for Drax’s new head of legal to make their mark.
