DLA Piper has represented Groupon in its acquisition of Swarm Solutions, a San Francisco-based venture-backed technology company that provides an analytics and customer engagement platform for brick-and-mortar retail businesses.
Founded in 2012 by Rudd Davis and Ryan Denehy, Swarm utilises Bluetooth, infrared and Wi-Fi technology to track user behaviour and deliver targeted promotions on smartphones.
Swarm’s team will join Groupon’s mobile operating system organisation in San Francisco and will continue to develop its product portfolio and partner roster, including integrations with a number of point-of-sale providers.

The acquisition closed on 17 November 2014. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
