Denton Wilde Sapte has laid off 76 people after holding a redundancy consultation with a number of departments across its London and Milton Keynes offices.
A total of 37 fee-earners have lost their jobs with the remainder of the redundancies affecting the secretarial, IT, telecoms and library departments.
The firm’s chief executive Howard Morris said that, after discussions with employee representatives, three jobs had been saved through a mixture of sabbaticals, pay cuts and part-time working.
Morris added that the firm has no plans for any further rounds of job cuts.
“I would hope that this would be the end,” he said. “It would be irresponsible to say that we won’t have to conduct another consultation, but we’ve got a long way to go before the economy returns to what people would consider normal.”
The firm launched the redundancy talks at the end of January with its London banking, corporate, energy, employment and pensions and real estate practices all affected. In Milton Keynes the real estate and construction, dispute resolution, corporate and employment practices took part in the consultation.
The consultations were conducted through 21 elected employee representatives. All staff who have been made redundant have been offered career counselling and assistance with paying for training or education courses.
