Counsel from No5 Barristers’ Chambers are facing each other in court in a murder trial that is under way at Birmingham Crown Court.
Jonas Hankin QC is acting for the prosecution following the death of Charlotte Teeling. Richard Bailey, 41, is accused of killing the mother-of-two during sex. Unemployed Bailey, who was arrested in Coventry earlier this year, denies charges of murder and manslaughter.
The jury heard that Miss Teeling, who had lived on the Isle of Wight and also at a women’s refuge in Worcester, was strangled and smothered during sex, and pornography was found scattered near her body.
Michael Burrows QC and Antonie Muller, also from No5, are acting for the defence. Bailey claims he accidentally caused Miss Teeling’s death during ‘rough sex’ at his flat at supported accommodation in Cooksey Lane, Kingstanding, Birmingham.
Miss Teeling vanished after boarding a train from Worcester to Birmingham on February 22 this year. Her body was found at a house in Kingstanding on March 2.
On the night of the tragedy, it is alleged she had visited Birmingham city centre and went to a nightclub before meeting Bailey at a shop at just after 6am. They then went by taxi to his flat.
