Council faces car park claim

In Shops Centre and Bristol City Council are heading for the High Court in a dispute over repairs to a car park in Bristol. In Shops says that joists supporting the car park floors are in danger of collapsing unless u20,000 repairs are carried out. However, the company, which is represented by Warwick-based solicitors Moore & Tibbits, claims that although it has asked the council to carry out the repairs as a matter of utmost urgency, because of the potential danger posed to users of the car park and the shopping area underneath, the council has denied it is responsible to maintain the car park. As a result, In Shops is seeking an injunction ordering the council, which has an under-lease of the car park from Tesco, to carry out the repairs.
