Conyers Dill & Pearman has announced the secondment of a Caymanian articling student to Hong Kong.

Ryan McConvey is now stationed in Conyers’ Hong Kong office as an articled clerk and will remain there for the next four months under the tutelage of Devika Parchment, another Caymanian attorney gaining international experience in the financial services mecca.

While in Hong Kong, Ryan will get hands-on training on Cayman-related matters including mergers and acquisitions, listings of Cayman companies on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, attending contentious board and shareholder meetings and other general corporate and restructuring matters.

Conyers’ managing partner of the Cayman office, Kevin Butler, congratulated Ryan on his secondment: “The type of work Ryan will be doing in Hong Kong is wider reaching and in many respects much more demanding than what he would experience here in Cayman – the exposure he will receive in that fast-paced and highly charged environment will benefit his professional development exponentially”, Mr. Butler said.

Conyers’ Partner Gene DaCosta, who is Ryan’s Principal for the duration of his Articleship, was the driving force behind this arrangement. Mr. DaCosta was pleased with the outcome: “A secondment of this nature during articles is virtually unheard of in Cayman, and is the product of both Ryan’s keen interest and the strength of Conyers’ international presence”, he said. Mr. DaCosta also spent a year on secondment in Hong Kong with Conyers.
