Continued integration is key for African nations, says Eversheds

Boris Martor, partner and Africa law expert at Eversheds, has commented on news that three African economic blocs will merge into a new 27-nation free-trade zone.

Martor said: ‘African nations have been continuously developing economic integration strategies and it is key they continue to develop synergies to sustain foreign direct investment from outside Africa and also develop interstate commerce internally.

‘Better economic integration, the removal of barriers and business facilitation will all help African countries promote their respective potential and reach critical mass. Ultimately, deals such as this will have long-term impacts both economically and legally and have a major impact on social development.’
