Commission backs Law Soc training

THE LAW Society has won European Commission support for its legal training initiatives after meetings in Brussels earlier this month showed the subject was high on Europe's list of priorities.

Chair of the Law Society's training committee Simon Baker and legal education and training group chair Richard King met with commission officials to discuss continuing professional development in the UK. King said it was clear that Europe “fully supports” the UK programmes.

The pair received confirmation that the commission also backed current Law Society applications for Euro funds under the Leonardo da Vinci programme and the European Year of Lifelong Learning.

“I am greatly encouraged that Law Society policies reflect commission priorities for lifelong learning, work-based training, training for change and development of broad-based skills,” said Baker. “I am totally convinced this is an agenda for the future.”
