‘If [an] allegation amounts to gross misconduct that could lead to summary dismissal, check this is consistent with the disciplinary policy in your staff handbook or the employee’s contract. “Gross misconduct is not always straightforward,” says Goodman. “For example, if you have a clause that says someone can be dismissed for a ‘serious breach of confidentiality’, this could mean different things in different organisations.”’
