CMS, Nabarro and Olswang are paying £10,000 to 25 trainees to defer the start of their training contracts for six months.

The three firms are set to merge on 1 Mayand confirmed in December that they would honour all training contract offers.

However, they implemented a “voluntary and incentivised deferral programme”, offering trainees due to start in September 2017 £10,000 to defer the start of their training contract for six months.

A total of 46 trainees were offered the opportunity to voluntarily defer their start date, with 25 accepting. Instead of beginning this September, they will start in February 2018 instead.

Two trainees also took the option to participate in a “strategic CMS Corporate Social Responsibility project.”

Olswang retained seven of its eight qualifying trainees this spring (88 per cent). Nabarro kept all nine of its qualifiers (100 per cent) while CMS held on to 22 of 28 (78 per cent).
