Clydes’ new international board to set global visionClyde & Co partners have okayed plans to set up an international board aimed at driving the firm’s global strategy.

At the firm’s international conference on 28 June, the partners passed a motion to allow its worldwide ­strategy to be run out of Dubai, with the new board set to be chaired by commercial ­partner Anthony Garrod.

Clydes ;Middle ;East ­business ;development ­manager Clinton Swan confirmed that an international board will be established, but said an exact timeframe for the project is still being worked out.

“The ;board ;will ;sit below the firm’s management board and will ­provide recommendations as to specific initiatives and strategic direction,” said chief executive Peter ­Hassan.

The partners who will sit on the board are yet to be decided, but Swan said ­Garrod is well placed to take the lead on the firm’s global plans.

“Anthony’s ;overseen the development of our ­commercial practice in the Middle East, which includes telecommunications, ­intellectual property and property,” said Swan. “His leadership in the region has been a success and we believe he can transfer this to the firm as a whole.”

Clydes, which launched in the Middle East in 1989, saw its global turnover increase by 16.3 per cent, from £135m in 2006-07 to £157m in the last financial year. Of this, the Middle East brings in the most ­revenue for the firm internationally at 14 per cent.

In addition to the United Arab Emirates, another key jurisdiction for Clydes’ international growth is the US. In the past 12 months the US brought in 3 per cent, or £47.1m, of the firm’s revenue.

Clydes’ strategy going ­forward is to focus on ­insurance, aviation and ­contentious work.
