Clifford Chance marketing man goes to Stock Exchange

CLIFFORD Chance marketing chief Robert Pay is to join the Stock Exchange.

Pay is the third senior figure from the marketing department to leave since last July. Carolyn Griffiths left to train as a barrister, and Michael Belford joined top surveyors Richard Ellis.

Pay's appointment as the exchange's head of marketing ends a seven-year reign which started only six months after the firm's creation through merger.

“I'll be sad to move. I've enjoyed it and it was an enormous challenge,” says Pay.

“The firm has continued to do well and I would like to think that the marketing focuses, such as identifying and analysing new markets, have helped in that.”

Pay says of his new job: “It's an interesting position, helping me develop my career and drawing on my knowledge of financial markets.”

Clifford Chance is seeking a replacement, who is unlikely to come from the legal profession because of the breadth of experience needed.

Pay spent three years in advertising after Oxford and has an MBA from City University. He joined Clifford Chance after two years' marketing with accountants Deloitte Haskins & Sells.

At the exchange, his responsibilities will include planning and market research encompassing all market participants and users of the exchange's services.
