Clifford Chance eyes market to forge more overseas links

Clifford Chance is already looking at more markets for future expansion, says its European managing partner.

Peter Cornell says several countries are being considered for possible mergers or new offices. “We are still interested in Scandinavia,” he says. “And we are looking at South America and South Africa.”

While Rogers & Wells, Clifford Chance's new American merger partners, already has a strong South American practice and Clifford Chance has a partner based in Sao Paulo, neither firm has a full office in the region, which promises great future growth.

If the merger with Rogers & Wells and Punder Volhard, Weber & Axster goes through the 2,700 lawyer-Clifford Chance will have offices in Amsterdam, Bangkok, Barcelona, Beijing, Brussels, Budapest, Dusseldorf, Dubai, Frankfurt, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, New York, Padua, Paris, Prague, Rome, Shanghai, Singapore, Sao Paolo, Tokyo, Warsaw, and Washington.
