Centrica invites bids for places on first panel

Centrica is set to launch a tender for its first-ever legal panel.

The energy giant has already spoken to its existing external advisers about the possibility of bidding for panel places.

Details are still being thrashed out, but discussions are underway as to whether it will encompass the full range of Centrica’s businesses, including British Gas and Centrica Energy, which handle ’downstream’ and ’upstream’ activities respectively.

Melanie Rowlands, who took over from Adrian Morris as general counsel at British Gas earlier this year, said the panel would allow Centrica to act in a “more holistic way”.

“It’s something we’re trying to do that’s different,” she added. “We used to act as little businesses.”

Past legal advisers to Centrica include Allen & Overy, Ashurst, Eversheds, Herbert Smith, Linklaters and Slaughter and May.
