Clifford Chance‘s New York office has hired former Goldman Sachs legal director and associate general counsel Elaine Laurence.
Laurence joins the firm’s New York office as a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution group, specialising in advising financial services institutions on IP and technology issues.
The hire comes as the UK firm looks to rebuild its litigation and dispute resolution practice in New York following a series of departures. Securities litigation star Jim Benedict quit for Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy and IP specialist Leora Ben-Ami and a five-partner bankruptcy team left for Kaye Scholer.
Clifford Chance is understood to be in talks to further build securities litigation and bankruptcy.
Clifford Chance litigation head Peter Chaffetz said: “Elaine’s experience will benefit our clients enormously.”
