Clifford Chance has hired Jones Day partner Bruce Schulberg as a partner in its Beijing corporate finance team.

Schulberg, who joined Jones Day as a lateral hire from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe in 2003, is US qualified and has spent 15 years in Asia focusing on project finance and cross-border investments.

During his time in the Asian region, Schulberg has worked on a number infrastructure projects with a particular focus on financing oil, gas and power projects.

Huw Jenkins, Clifford Chance’s Asian finance head, said Schulberg’s experience will complement the firm’s existing skills in mainland China, adding that he will work closely with colleagues in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.

Schulberg said record high oil prices and competition for energy resources are creating new opportunities for Chinese and international players in the oil and gas sector, leading to the demand for ever more creative financing structures.
