Linklaters has ramped up its London competition practice with the star hire of president of the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) Sir Christopher Bellamy.
Bellamy, recognised as one of Europe’s leading competition lawyers, joins the firm’s global competition and antitrust practice as a senior consultant.
He will step down from his position at the CAT later this year. He has been president of the tribunal since 1999.
Bellamy’s experience also includes a stint as judge of the Court of First Instance of the European Communities from 1992 to 1999, and a Queen’s Counsel practising in competition and EU matters, prior to that.
In a statement, Anthony Cann, senior partner at Linklaters, said: “The expected spread and intensification of competition enforcement activity around the world means that strategic and specialist antitrust advice is increasingly important.”
Bellamy said that after seven years leading the CAT he felt “it is the right time to lay down those responsibilities”.
