A man, from Castle Bromwich, who was jailed earlier this year for six and a half years, was cleared at London’s Criminal Appeal Court.

Darren Hunt junior, whom Harpreet Sandhu defended in the case, was convicted of conspiracy to kidnap and aggravated burglary.

Prosecutors claimed his father and himself were linked to the 2013 crimes by evidence which included phone records and tiny glass fragments said to be from crime scenes.

However, now senior judges at London’s Criminal Appeal Court have quashed all of Hunt junior’s conviction.

The lawyers for Hunt junior said that the evidence against him was unreliable and his conviction “unsafe”.

Experts have testified that 37 per cent of the UK population have glass on their clothing at any given time.
