Camerons plays in defence for Dowie

Although not best known for its contacts in the sports world, CMS Cameron McKenna has scooped a role advising Iain Dowie and his new club, Charlton Athletic FC, on their dispute with Crystal Palace FC.

Employment partner Simon Jeffreys is leading the defence of Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan’s claims that Dowie tricked him out of a £1m compensation clause.

A few weeks ago, when the dispute first hit the headlines, The Lawyer called Charlton Athletic, who confirmed they had appointed outside counsel, but refused to name the firm.

Even Mark Buckley, head of the sports group at Fladgate Fielder and lead adviser to Jordan, confessed to not knowing who would be representing Dowie and Charlton at the time.

With Jordan determined to fight the dispute in the press, Charlton seem equally set on keeping a lid on the whole affair.

But just how did Camerons get that work? No comment…
