BPP is to offer LLM programmes that are tailored specifically to solicitors and barristers.
The LLM Legal Practice (Solicitors) and LLM Legal Practice (Barristers) will launch in September of this year.
Both courses are being offered in BPP’s London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and Manchester branches and can be taken full time over one year or part-time over two. They will allow students to select from a range of LLM modules and each qualifies for a postgraduate loan of up to £10,280 from the Student Loans Company.
Jo-Anne Pugh, BPP’s joint director of Legal Practice Course programmes, said: “This is an integrated, practice-focused programme which has employability at its heart. Students can tailor their own programme to the area of law they wish to practise, by choosing three from a wide range of elective modules and a ‘Practice Ready’ module, which can have a business, skills or work-based learning focus. It is a challenging and rewarding programme enabling students to acquire further knowledge and skills that are of real value in current legal practice.”
The courses are the latest in a series of tailored or bespoke options that the UK’s two largest law schools, BPP and the University of Law, have rolled out over recent years, often in partnership with law firms.
Among them, the University of Law in 2016 launched a Bar Professional Training Course with a Master’s degree attached – the BPTC LLM, while in 2015 it launched an MSc in Law, Business and Management for future Linklaters joiners. Meanwhile, BPP started its own MA (LPC with Business) qualification in 2013.
