Bird & Bird has expanded its Asian IP offering with the hire of partner Shirley Kwok from local firm Vivien Chan & Co in Hong Kong.
Kwok specialises in trademarks and has over 20 years of IP experience in the Chinese market.
She has been appointed to head up the firm’s IP portfolio management team in Asia, which will advise international clients on registering and protecting groups of patents and trade marks in Hong Kong and China.
Kwok said: “Demand for IP protection in Asia has been growing for the last 10 years at a tremendous rate and infringement has always been a problem in China.”
Bird & Bird is looking to grow its Asia practice. Kwok said: “We’re looking to have more and more good people to join both in Hong Kong and China”
Kwok’s appointment follows on from the hire of dispute resolution consultant Darren FitzGerald in Hong Kong from Minter Ellison.
