A barrister is bidding to succeed Nigel Farage as the leader of the UK Independence Party.
Steven Woolfe is currently a Member of the European Parliament for North West England. Previously, however, he had a long career as a lawyer.
Starting out as a criminal barrister, Woolfe then became a Legal And Compliance Analyst at UBS
A two-year stint as an in-house counsel at Taylor Wessing followed, before a move to DLA Piper in 1999.
Further in-house roles followed, including a six-year spell as general counsel of Boyer Allan Investment Management.
Launching his leadership campaign in London, Woolfe said: “To old Labour voters let down by their party, I say, UKIP will give you a voice. To the majority of Tory voters who voted Leave but have been lumbered with continuity Cameron under Theresa May, I say – UKIP will welcome you.”
At the last election, lawyers who stood as UKIP candidates included barrister Victoria Ayling in Great Grimsby, criminal solicitor Toby Brothers in Mid Sussex, and employment discrimination barrister David Robinson-Young of Dere Street Chambers, who stood for the Newcastle upon Tyne East seat. Meanwhile, 22-year-old law graduate Robin Hunter-Clarke stood in Boston & Skegness
