Bakers to open in Shanghai in February

Baker & McKenzie is to open an office in Shanghai, its second in mainland China.

The Chinese government approved Bakers’ application in December and the firm is due to open the Shanghai office in February. The firm also has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei.

Partners John Grobowski and Danian Zhang, who are currently based in Hong Kong and Beijing respectively, will head the office.

Zhang said: “Unlike any other country in the world, the laws and regulations in China, as well as the society, are changing at a tremendous pace. We hope that this [office] will allow us to further strengthen our business in China by being able to provide on the ground, local market knowledge and support in Shanghai.”
