Baker & McKenzie has finally signed up the majority of Coudert Brothers’ New York office.
The mass lateral hire means that Bakers will double the size of its New York office to over 130 lawyers.
Bakers is taking around 70 lawyers from Coudert’s New York headquarters having dropped out of a merger deal with the whole firm, as first revealed on www.thelawyer.com on 18 August 2005.
The chairman of Coudert Brothers, Clyde Rankin, will join Bakers as will the securities/capital markets team and the corporate/M&A groups.
Bakers’ chairman John Conroy said: “Adding this group of attorneys from Coudert represents a significant step towards achieving our goal in an international context that has been the hallmark of Baker & McKenzie and Coudert Brothers, the two pioneers in the global legal business.”
Other Coudert partners remain in discussions with other firms.
