Ashurst is taking Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer‘s place as Philip Green’s adviser on the bid for Marks & Spencer.

The decision was made as an injunction barring Freshfields from acting for Green on the takeover due to concerns over potential conflicts of interest was upheld today (3 June).

Throughout the day, Merrill Lynch, financial adviser to the Green consortium, has been in contact with a handful of City law firms to find a replacement should the injunction be upheld.

This will be the first time that Ashurst has acted for Green.

Ashurst refused to comment.
